Ducks
Cherry Valley
Out of Stock until next year
These ducks can lay up to 300 eggs per year. Developed by the Cherry Valley organisation, they were designed to serve as a dual purpose bird, but have turned out as quite superb layers. Not only laying large numbers of eggs, but unbelievably large eggs for such a medium size duck.
Aylesbury Duck
Drakes for sale £5 each for meat or breeding
The Aylesbury duck originates from the early 18th Century from the town of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, breeding Aylesbury ducks soon became a profitable cottage industry supplying the demands of Londons markets. Until 1815 they were originally called ‘White English’ but then became known as Aylesbury Ducks. The most popular area in Aylesbury where the ducks were reared (and also one of the poorest) became known as ‘Duck End’. The ducks often lived inside the cottages of their owners, which made conditions particularly unsanitary.
Khaki Campbell
Out of Stock until next year
The Khaki Campbell breed was developed by Mrs Adele Campbell of England early last century as a dual purpose (egg and meat) breed. In developing the Khaki Campbell, Mrs Campbell used the Rouen (a heavy meat breed) for substance; the Indian Runner for egg production; and the Mallard for foraging ability. The result was a medium size bird males weigh 4lb that ex-celled in egg production and foraging ability. 300 eggs per year.
Khaki Campbell’s hold the world record for egg production (for all breeds of poultry including chooks). The eggs have pearly white shells and are of superb flavour for eating (any-one who tells you they don’t like the flavour of duck eggs has obviously never tasted a Khaki Campbell duck egg!)
Khaki Campbell’s usually have a quiet and friendly nature and make excellent pets. A pair of Khaki Campbell’s in the back-yard will keep the area free of snails and other insect pests.
